There's a good piece in the New Statesman about the American "home ownership for all" model, in which subprime lenders like Chad and Mike sell dreams that turn into nightmares and which has got the world into all kind of trouble, and the European rental model, in which sophisticated Germans and Swiss spend the time they could be reading their mortgage documents reading philosophy, instead, and can move to a more cultured city at the drop of a well-blocked hat. It's not exactly that, but it does make the case that there's nothing wrong with renting. Read it here. Our publisher made a similar point here... but got all jumped on by Citywire's readers.
