Recession digression 33 - middle-class shoplifters

It seems items are flying off the shelves, and we're not just talking about retail sales.

The value of retail goods stolen rose 20% to £4.88bn in the year to June, the Centre for Retail Research said.

Interestingly, a rise in "middle-class shoplifters", nicking to keep their end up rather than sell on the black market, is an aspect of the new data.
