I was really interested by the Telegraph's piece on crap fixtures and fittings - a lot of my friends live in Birmingham's limitless cardboard city centre developments and every time I pay any of them a visit i'm astounded at the poor quality of craftsmanship of the buildings themselves, and the low durability of the buy-in-bulk fixtures and fittings. Developers everywhere have repeated the mistakes of the postwar social housing housing boom in a lot of recently built properties - I wouldn't be surprised if 80% of the new apartments built in our city centres will have crumbled or been demolished in the next 50 years for the next round of 'regeneration.'
