I was really interested by the Telegraph's piece on crap fixtures and fittings - a lot of my friends live in Birmingham's limitless cardboard city centre developments and every time I pay any of them a visit i'm astounded at the poor quality of craftsmanship of the buildings themselves, and the low durability of the buy-in-bulk fixtures and fittings. Developers everywhere have repeated the mistakes of the postwar social housing housing boom in a lot of recently built properties - I wouldn't be surprised if 80% of the new apartments built in our city centres will have crumbled or been demolished in the next 50 years for the next round of 'regeneration.' They don't make em like they used to...
