Foxtons, Camden, will work for free
Seems like an odd time to open a new branch, but that's exactly what Foxtons is doing. The Camden office - at 120 Parkway - opens its doors on Saturday, June 14, and will be celebrating their new premises with cappuccini and zero commission for the first 200 instructions. It's a courageous way of winning business from the rivals and getting a bunch of Foxtons boards about, but how will the zero percenters fair compared to the other clients when it comes to pushing homes?

I think you'll find Foxton's will give their negotiators a three month - possibly six month guarantee on their salry which would negate the paying clients/non paying client situation. I was running a prominent Clapham agency back in the early 90's when Foxtons opened their Lavender Hill branch. Way back then they charged no fees for the first THREE months!!! They effictivley hoovered up most of the instructions - but not all of them. When things settle down in Camden ther'll still be space for good independant(and National) agencies to do business. While Foxton's are very good at what they do, not everyone likes the Foxton's way of doing business. Thank god for a free open market.

I agree with Ronan, it is a very aggresive tactic indeed. I am also surprised at the timing of the expansion, perhaps people choosing to rent will subsidise the home sales department until the market picks up.
