HIPS monkey-trainer stripped of bananas

Thanks to a Rat and Mouse reader for pointing out this latest installment in the HIPs fiasco. Apparently, Morgan Whittaker, a major trainer of energy assessment monkeys, has had its accreditation withdrawn by City & Guilds, leaving hundreds of trainees bearing their teeth and slamming their palms on the ground in confusion. The exact nature of the discontent isn't clear, with neither MW nor C&G wanting to talk about it. According to the Guardian:

Allegations about the firm have been made on online message boards.

Eager to know what these allegations might be, the Rat and Mouse attempted to sign up to Home Inspector Forum. We passed the tricky initial membership test designed to ensure only quality Home Inspection scientists can access the boards:

... but, unfortunately, a couple of steps later we were faced with some symbolism:

Another time, maybe. But if any readers know the ins-and-outs...

Trainee energy assessors left in dark

Monday, September 17th, 2007

An energy assessor training school has been removed from the City and Guilds accreditation scheme, leaving scores of trainees wondering how and when they will be able to start working in their new profession.

Morgan Whittaker are the training school at the centre of the controversy which has left many trainee assessors out of pocket by thousands of pounds.

City and Guilds claim that the withdrawal of their accreditation is due to contractual problems. However, trainees have been voicing their concerns about Morgan Whittakers training style and fulfilment of basic administrative procedures.

Some trainees have already taken the firm to small claims court for a refund of fees paid, only to find that bailiffs have struggled to retrieve any goods of significant value.

Where does this leave the trainees who are yet to finish their courses or those who are just waiting to be officially signed off? City and Guilds are trying to place recruits on other training schemes and will, in some cases, pick up the bill for those waiting for their certificates.

Industry officials have made it clear that this one case will not jeopardise Home Information Pack rollout. In fact there are about 33 other training schools that can easily cater for continued throughput of trainees.
