Ex-Battle of Britain pilots are expressing concern and disappointment over leaked news that Bentley Priory - the 18th Century mansion in Stanmore that was home to Fighter Command from 1936 and through the Second World War - is on the list of surplus-to-requirements buildings planned for an imminent sale.
The Priory, where Air Chief Marshall Sir Hugh Dowding directed one of the greatest military miracles in the history of warfare, has become a spiritual home for Battle of Britain survivors, who would like to see it turned into a permanent memorial to those who flew and fought (as opposed to a Euro-hotel with views over London). We're with the pilots on this one, and if you want to email in your support, we'll forward it collectively to the Battle of Britain Fighter Association, and to the MOD.
