If ever there were three words that sound good together... this is about plans, announced at the Labour Party conference yesterday, to create powers to fine rogue agents up to £25,000 if they break the commandments found in the optional ombudsman scheme. Currently, only four in ten have signed up, but these new plans should offer some form of redress for those who have come a cropper with one of the remaining six. Sounds fair. But the more serious misdemeanours - for instance the passing on of a property at a discount to a developer/investor - remain hard to prove.
